Request Assistance from the Council
The Minnesota Governor’s Council on Geographic Information wants to serve
the best interests of the state and the nation. As such, it is open to
requests for assistance, particularly those that support our mission and
that follow our guiding principles.
Criteria for requests
Council responses to these requests are based on the following criteria:
- Action of any kind shall be based on the council’s
mission and
guiding principles.
- Actions may be further limited by the council’s
bylaws and
operating policies; e.g., the council cannot apply for or receive a
grant.
- The council is more likely to take action on issues endorsed by one
of its committees.
- The council may decide that an admirable activity will be rejected
because of other priorities or lack of resources.
- The council is not bound by the specifics of the request and may
choose to modify its response.
Forms to submit requests
Two kinds of requests have been most common, so forms are provided that
will help the council understand and respond to a specific request:
- Letters of Support: Over the years, the council has written
many letters of support for policies, organizations, and actions.
Examples can be seen on our policy
statements page. To request such a letter, please complete the
following form, using either the Word, Rich Text or PDF format versions,
and submit it via the email or mailing address below.
- Request for speaker, newsletter article, or other form of
communication: Many types of communication are outlined in the
council’s
Communication
Plan and associated
List of Relevant Organizations.
To request a speaker, newsletter article, etc., submit a communication
request form (provided below or at the end of the communication plan) and submit to the
Outreach Committee at the address below.
